Canada Red beats
Canada White for gold at Pan Am youth championships.
MEXICO CITY-
Candice Philipe of Vancouver scored the only goal of the game on a
penalty shot in the final minute as Canada Red defeated Canada White
1-0 to win the gold medal in women's play at the Pan American youth
championships in water polo.

really emphasized for players our age and it showed tonight,'' said
Saara Majuri of Vancouver, the tournament's top scorer with Philipe
at 14 goals each. ''The goaltenders were great as well. This was a
fantastic tournament for us just for the fact we got to know other
players from across Canada, players we might play with for years to
come at major international tournaments.''
Two other Canada
Red players also received major awards. Emily Csikos of Calgary was
named the tournament MVP and Ellen Rafferty of Calgary was named the
top goaltender. Canada Red won its seven games in the tournament
