Canada set to
successfully defend its title at women's world junior water polo
championships.
OTTAWA- Canada
looks to successfully defend its title at the 15-country women's
world junior water polo championships January 24-31 in Perth,
Australia.
It's a new-look
Canadian squad from the one that took the gold in Calgary two years
ago. There is only one returning player, however it is team's big
hero from 2003 Krystina Alogbo of Montreal.
Alogbo scored the
winning goal in the shootout in the 2003 final against the U.S., to
give Canada its first ever world junior crown.
Joining Alogbo this
year are Joelle Bekhazi, Nadia Kvakic, Katie Monton and Stephanie
Valin, all of Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Que., Jenna Crook, Whitney
Genoway and Jessica Wagner, of Regina, Alexandra Dionne of Ste-Foy,
Que., Carmen Eggens and Kerry Kaukinen of Vancouver, Mélanie
Laroche of Montreal and Marie-Claudine Lebeau of St-Lambert, Que.
The Canadians place
Greece on January 25 and Puerto Rico on January 26 in round robin
play before the playoff round starts on January 27.
