The Regina Squids
won easily playing man-up the entire game due to the late arrival of
several key Storm players. Regina all but secures a spot in the
second round crossover, leaving the Storm with an uphill battle to
qualify for the Calgary tournament in April.

Calgary's
experienced A team was too big and too fast for their younger
counterparts claiming a lopsided win.

Women Neptunes 4 Renegades 9
Three Stars:

3. Svetlana Shevtsova, Neptunes (9 blocks)
A close game a half
time, largely due to solid goaltending by Shevtsova, was broken open
when Calgary scored 3 fourth period goals. Two of the goals came off
of counter-attacks after their drop-and-gap defense produced easily
saved long outside shots.

The Bushido played
a strong game despite the lopsided score. Vancouver was a much
stronger, faster, more experienced team, led by national team member
Sue Gardiner's 8 gaols.

3. Kevin Mitchell, Storm (2 goals)
The Storm kept
their crossover hopes alive after a decisive win against the Dynamo.
Kevin Mitchell shut down the Dynamo's main scoring threat, Philippe
Kirsanov and Boonzayer scored three goals to lead the Storm, who
never trailed in the entire game.

Regina won easily
with superior size, speed and experience, however, Calgary B showed
that their future in this league is positive with 5 goals and
several missed chances.

The Neptunes took
early 3-0 and 5-1 leads cruising to victory led by Julia Brooks' 3
goals.

In a tight
defensive battle where quality shots were hard to come by, the Storm
managed to stake a 3 goal lead early in the third quarter. The
Renegades brought the game back to within one goal by the end of the
third, but two counter-attack goals by the Storm in the fourth
quarter sealed the victory.

This game was
played at high level of intensity and the outcome was not decided
until the last second of the game when Kevin Mitchell scored
bar-head-in. Both teams had to adjust as the both national team
hole-men were disqualified from the game.

Regina secured its
spot in the second round with a convincing win over an un-energetic
Dynamo team.

The Storm broke the
game open early, cruising to a ten goal victory.

The Renegades blew
the game open in the middle periods and keeping the Bushido
scoreless, largely due to the stops of goalie, Ellen Rafferty.

The Dynamo duo of
Kirsanov and Girard provided enough offense (8 goals) to beat the
Calgary B team.

Regina secured the
spot of top seed for the cross-over round by beating Calgary in an
exciting physical game. Regina dictated the pace of the game in the
first half to build up an early lead, extending it to as much as 7-2
in the third quarter. Justin Beitel was particularly strong early,
taking away several good scoring opportunities. Calgary finally
picked up the energy towards the end of the third and chipped away
at the lead, brining the game back to one goal. It was not enough as
Regina hung on to win, pleasing the vocal hometown crowd.

The Dynamo could
not stop national team players Nathaniel Miller and Vladamir Cosic
as Calgary sailed to an easy victory.

A high powered, but
lack-lusted Storm team started slowly missing the net on consecutive
opportunities. National team members Kevin Mitchell and Dan Stein
put the young Calgary players away with two goals each in the fourth
quarter.

In the exhibition
cross-over of the top two women's teams, the Storm demonstrated how
their size and speed could control a game. A three goal second
period blew the game open as the Storm finished the tournament as
the top women's team in the West.

The steady
improvement of the Bushido was highlighted b this last game victory
over their Winnipeg counterparts. The young team managed to score 5
power play goals as goalie Pizey-Allen blanked the more-experienced
Neptunes for the first half.
