B.C.'s Youth Men strike gold at National Championship

B.C.'s Pacific Storm Youth Men's water polo team struck gold at the Speedo 2005 National Championships held over the weekend in Coquitlam. In a fast paced and often intense tournament the Pacific Storm team knocked off Canada's top ranked teams to win the title.

The 12 member team boasts an impressive roster of talent. Five of its players were recently named to the list of the Top 20 Youth players in Canada. Tremendous offensive skill and strategic defensive play were integral to Pacific Storm's success but it was another element that made them unstoppable. "The most important thing for these guys was to learn to play as a team--they did it" said coach Celso Rojas. In the final game Pacific Storm was the first to score and then led throughout, securing the gold medal with a 9-6 win against Quebec powerhouse DDO1.

Individual honours went to Rojas who was named All Star coach and Matt Gore and Stuart Preston who were named to the All Star team. Pacific Storm's Con Kudaba was named the MVP of the tournament.
