Coquitlam's
Matt Gore named to World Water Polo team. |
Water
Polo Canada recently announced the team chosen to
represent Canada at the 13th FINA Junior Men's World
Water Polo Championships in Mar del Plata, Argentina in
October. Five of BC's top players were named.
Coquitlam's Matt Gore 17, a grade 12 student at Charles
Best Secondary was the youngest player named to the
roster. That didn't come as a surprise to anyone who
remembers an 8 year old Gore diving into the pool and
playing his first game of water polo. He emerged pumped,
"When's the next game? I want to score", he
announced. Years passed and the fire and intensity in
his eyes became even more apparent and his game
stronger. He was named to the Youth National Pan Am team
last December and Outstanding Male Cadet of the Year in
2004. "The idea that I might one day get to play on
the Senior National team and possibly even go to the
Olympics keeps me motivated" he recently said. The
honor role student who plans for a career in science or
engineering may have to put those plans on hold as he
readies for the opportunity to compete against athletes
from all over the world. His eyes intent as he aims for
the top.
Other BC players named to the Junior World team are Con
Kudaba, Thomas Courtamanche, Brandon Jung and Clem Hui.
