B.C. Girls Grab Bronze at National Water Polo Championships

Vancouver, B.C. - B.C.'s Pacific Storm Cadet Girls (U16) grabbed the bronze medal at the Canadian National Water Polo Championships held over the weekend in Calgary. The 13 member team seemed poised for a spot in the gold medal round but lost to Dollard des Ormieux in the final moments of semi final play.

The bronze medal match up saw Pacific Storm facing the Calgary Renegades. The Storm girls rebounded dramatically after suffering a stinging loss to Calgary the previous day. "It was payback...we could have beat them yesterday and this was to show them we could" said Captain Allison Campbell. Storm won the game in a decisive 13 to 8 victory. "We finally played to our potential…we played as a team… where every one had a role", said coach James Gardiner, "it was nerve wracking though because Calgary never quits". Assistant coach John Stockdale added, "it was a blue collar effort...the kind I like…very workman like…resilient, relentless, disciplined."Individual honours went to Athina Vazeos who was named to the All Star team.
