It's
Silver for B.C. Boy's after Heartbreaking Loss in Final
Vancouver,
B.C. - B.C.'s Pacific Storm Cadet Boys (U16) nabbed the silver
medal at the Canadian National Water Polo Club Championships
held over the weekend in Regina. It was a bittersweet end to
an outstanding, undefeated record of tournament play.
The final
match saw the B.C. Boys pitted against Dollard des Ormieux (DDO
I) from Quebec. Ferociously fought by both teams, the score
was tied at 16-16 after 4 quarters of regulation play and 2
periods of overtime when it moved into a shoot out. DDO I won
the shoot out and took the gold medal with a final score of
20-19.
B.C. Coach
Ryan Bazeley said, "It was an exciting final to watch and
a heartbreaking one to lose. Both teams played their hearts
out and its unfortunate in the end it came down to one goal in
a shoot out. The whole team played a great game. I am
extremely proud of them". Individual honours went to Evan
Van Neikerk who was named to the All Star team.
Two other
B.C. teams participated in the National Championship; Fraser
Valley Water Polo placed 9th and Storm B took 12th spot.
