Youth Girl's take National Water Polo Crown
Vancouver,
B.C. - B.C.'s Pacific Storm Youth Girl's (U18) arrived at
Water Polo Canada's National Championship, held over the
weekend in Toronto, strong, prepared and ready to make a run
for gold. They left unbeaten, victorious and the newly crowned
2006 champions. The 13 member gold medal team coached by James
Gardiner, John Stockdale and Olympian Sue Gardiner launched a
powerful attack from the opening minutes of play and continued
to dominate throughout the 4 day tournament. The BC team
defeated the number 1 seed DDO from Quebec in a final game
easily described as intense with a score of 6-5. Head coach
James Gardiner pleased with the win stated, "The girls
played great team water polo. We had clutch performances by
all athletes. They played great from start to finish in each
and every game". This victory marks the first time the BC
Youth Girl's have won the National title.
Individual
honors went to Gardiner who was named Most Valuable Coach and
Carmen Eggens who was named MVP of the Tournament. Outstanding
play was also seen Coquitlam's Laura Shaw who received
numerous game stars.
