BC
takes Gold and Silver at 2006 Youth Cup
Vancouver,
B.C. - BC Women took gold and the BC Men silver at Water Polo
Canada's Youth Cup Championship held over the weekend in
Vancouver.
The Women's
gold medal game saw BC pitted against Quebec 1. Strong and
evenly matched BC pulled ahead in the last quarter and nailed
the game 9-7. BC's Saara Majuri was named Tournament MVP,
Athina Vazeos was named to the All Star team and BC Women's
coach James Gardiner was named Most Valuable Coach.
The Men's
final saw Ontario 1 take on BC. The score was tied 7-7 at the
end of regulation play and moved into overtime action. At the
end of the first OT quarter the scored was again tied at 8-8.
Two minutes into the second OT quarter Ontario scored and held
the lead. It was a heartbreaking loss for BC as they took the
silver and Ontario 1 the gold with a final score of 9-8. BC's
Stuart Preston and Evan Van Niekerk were named to the All Star
team.
Bronze medals
were awarded to Ontario 1(Women's) and Quebec 1(Men's).
