Canada’s
Junior Women’s Team captures Silver at the Pan AM Water Polo
Championships
Ottawa –
Canada’s Junior Women’s National Team came up a little
short today in the Women’s final at the Junior Pan Am Water
Polo Championships when they lost 6-4 to the USA. The USA did
start off strong but Canada managed to keep up however it just
wasn’t enough to claim that Gold Medal. Canada had defeated
the Americans in their first game of the tournament. This will
mark the team’s sixth straight Silver Medal at the Junior
Pan Am Championships.

Head Coach
David Hart stated: "Our lack of success in the player
advantage situation hurt us this evening. We will have to work
hard to improve that area of our game. Marissa had a strong
game in nets and really saved us in a few situations. I also
thought the center forwards for both teams were quite strong.
The players worked hard this week and we will now concentrate
on our preparation for Worlds next summer." Team Captain
Katie Monton |
| said: "We will be ready next year for the
World Championships in Portugal. The team knows how hard we
will have to train and we're ready for the challenges ahead of
us. I'm very proud of my team mates." |

vs USA 6
Team USA
started off strong and took a 3 - 0 lead in the first quarter
which ended 3 -1 thanks to a power play goal by Stephanie
Valin (Pointe Claire, QC - DDO Water Polo Club) with 13
seconds left. Nicole Moquin (Ottawa, ON - Ottawa Titans)
brought the score to within one half way through the second on
a great shot from the perimeter. The Americans answered back a
minute later before team captain Katie Monton (Dorval, QC -
DDO Water Polo Club) closed the gap to 4 -3 with a minute left
in the second quarter on a nice back hand after getting her
own rebound. The teams traded goals in the third and
Marie-Chantal Patry-Proulx (Hull, QC - Club Aquapolo de Hull)
scored with a player advantage. This proved to be Canada's
final goal and the Americans scored one insurance goal in the
fourth. Marissa Janssens (Beaconsfield, QC - DDO Water Polo
Club) handled the goal tending duties in today's game.
