Youth Men

The Youth Men’s gold medal game saw Storm A pitted against Washington. Strong and evenly matched Washington pulled ahead in the first quarter with a 4 to 3 lead. The next three quarters saw both teams battle back and forth to finish with an 11 to 11 tie at the end of regulation time. The teams remained tied at 12 to 12 after an exciting first overtime period but in the second period B.C.’s Storm A pulled ahead with three consecutive goals. 

Coached by Celso Rojas, B.C.’s Storm A took the gold metal with a 15 – 12 final victory over Washington. Matt Venner, Evan Van Niekerk and John Kaukinen were top scorers for BC Storm A while Huston Middlesworth and Brian Chong were top scorers for Washington. BC’s Matt Venner and goal tender Stuart Preston were named to the BC Open Youth All Star team.

Cadet Boys

The Cadet Boy’s (U16) final saw Fraser Valley Water Polo take on BC Storm A.  Fraser Valley took an early lead at the end of the first quarter but by half time Storm A had fought back to tie the game at 5 goals each. Fraser Valley pulled ahead and maintained their lead to win the gold medal with an 11 to 8 victory. High scorers for Fraser Valley were Igor Silva and Chris VanJoff. Roger Clarke scored 4 of BC Storm A’s 8 goals. Igor Silva, Fil Juristowski and Farbod Bahedori and BC Storm A’s Roger Clarke and Julian Kotyak were named to the BC Open Cadet All Star team.

The Bronze medals were awarded to Calgary for the Cadet Men’s and to DDO (Montreal) for the Youth Men’s.
