B.C. Girls tops at National Water Polo Championships

Vancouver, B.C. - B.C.'s Pacific Storm A cadet girl's water polo team took the gold medal at the Canadian National Water Polo Championship held over the weekend in Montreal.

The 10 member team made up of B.C.'s finest 14 & 15 year old players came out strong and from the beginning it was apparent they were the team to beat. Throughout the tournament they maintained an unbeaten record totaling 5 wins and 0 losses. The gold medal game saw Pacific Storm matched with the Ottawa Titans. "All season long this team has won when they had to-they played great team defense they really helped each other out," said coach John Stockdale. The B.C. girls posted a decisive 6-4 victory to win gold.

Individual honours went to Kirstn Mase and Allison Campbell who were named to the All Star team. "I wouldn't have wanted to win my first Nationals with any other players or coaches" said an elated Mase. Campbell added, "There was something special about our team-we just clicked from the beginning".

Pacific Storm B placed 12th overall. Coach James Gardiner said "this group will be ready for Nationals next year they grew up playing beyond their years-they had amazing spirit".

A third BC team Fraser Valley Water P placed 14th.
