B.C. Youth Girls Retain Water Polo Crown

Vancouver, B.C. - B.C.'s Pacific Storm Youth Girl's (U18) went into the National Championship, held over the weekend in Vancouver, fighting to retain the National crown they claimed for the first time last year. They succeeded-with a solid 6 win 0 loss tournament record. The 14 member gold medal team coached by James Gardiner and John Stockdale launched a powerful attack from the opening minutes of play and continued to dominate throughout the 3 day tournament.

In the gold medal match up the BC team defeated Quebec powerhouse CAMO. The teams ended regulation play in a 9-9 tie. Two 3 minute overtime periods followed, Storm scored in the first and held onto the lead to win 10-9. Coach James Gardiner summed it up, "It was a heart stopping game…the girls played with heart and emotion and excellent poise. It was a great summation of an incredible year." Co coach John Stockdale added, "CAMO did a tremendous job taking us to the wire…an exciting game for all the fans to watch it was nice to play in front of the home town crowd!"

Individual honors went to Monika Eggens who as named to the All Star team and MVP of the tournament. Outstanding play was also seen by Athina Vazeos, Saara Majuri, Kelly Stewart, Kelsey Campbell, Kirstn Mase and Biz Pannell who received game stars nods.
