Kerry
Kaukinen traded the balance beam for the water polo ball and
she's been on the fast track ever since. Nine years as a
gymnast had given her strength and power but it was when she
entered the pool, and gripped the water polo that she found
her sport. "I went to my first practice 5 years ago not
knowing what to expect…I left hooked", she
explained.
Did
Kerry find water polo or did the sport find her? Either way
it's a match of National and International proportion. Today
at 18 she is a member of Canada's Junior National team
attending the Junior Pan American Games in El Salvador and the
Junior Worlds Championships in Australia. Gearing up for a
busy summer she and her teammates just returned from a
National training camp in Hawaii. Her goals are simple and
clearly defined… to make the Senior National team and play
for Canada in the Olympic Games. It seems her goals are well
on track. |
