Brown - Clearly in Balance
Friends
describe Erika Brown as happy, funny and crazy. Coaches call
her a tough competitor. A multi disciplined athlete she was
introduced to water polo when she was 8. She took an immediate
liking to it because it was a in a pool and you could dunk
people. Fast forward through nine years of training and skill
development with the Sannich Water Polo School, at 17 she's
one of Canada's top water polo players. Last summer as a
member of the Canadian Youth team she traveled to Germany.
Today, Junior National team coaches have identified her as a
potential candidate for the 2007 Jr. Worlds team. A striking
list of accomplishments but it's the other side of Erika that
is truly awesome.
An active
member of the community she has long been involved with a
Victoria group known as 'Play Date' who encourage youth sports
in low income areas. Now in her first year at UBC she looks
forward to a career in medicine. WOW… you get the sense that
water polo is just one part of this multi faceted young woman
who has her priorities well defined and her life in balance.
As for her future in water polo, "I just want to continue
to have FUN with the sport", she simply states.
