Canada excels at Junior Pan Am Water Polo Championships
Canada wins the gold medal at Junior Pan Am water polo championships
SAN JUAN – Canada overcame a 0-3 first quarter deficit to defeat the U.S., 7-6 in the women’s championship final on Friday at the Junior Pan Am Water Polo Championships. The Canadian men took the fifth place match.
In the women’s final, Gurpreet Sohi of Delta, B.C., scored three goals with singles to Hayley McKelvey of Delta, Rachel Krieger of Regina, Taylor Molde of Weyburn, Sask., and Samantha Banks of Calgary.
The Americans grabbed a 3-0 first quarter lead but the Canadians roared back to tie it 3-3 at the half. Canada led 6-4 after three quarters and held on for the win.
In men’s play Canada defeated Puerto Rico 8-7 in the fifth place match. With the victory Canada earns a berth for next year’s world junior championships in Australia.

3rd Annual Masters Invitational Water Polo Festival
More Hardware for British Columbia
Vancouver Senior Water Polo (with help from Storm and a couple of Alberta imports) brought home silver medals from the 3rd Annual Canada Masters Festival in Calgary July 2011.
Dave Macdonald of Vancouver Senior Water Polo was named the tournament's Best Defensive Player while Rob Barton and Fraser received gold medals for the men's over 40 and Barton received gold for the over 50.
